Airline Baggage Restrictions
The following information is essential for travellers to/from the United States and is likely to apply for the conceivable future:
Following the tragic events in the United States on 11 September, 2001 additional security checks are in operation and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has implemented new regulations restricting the contents of hand baggage (i.e. cabin baggage).
Due to increased security checks it is recommended that passengers check-in for their flights earlier than normal.
North America to Europe flights - at least 3 hours prior to flight departure
US Internal flights - at least 2 hours prior to flight departure
Any item which could be used as (or interpreted as) a weapon cannot be carried on board aircraft. Such items include but are not limited to: Knives of any size or material including, but not limited to, pocket knives, folding or retractable blades and steel nail files, regardless of blade length, Straight (cut-throat) razors, Razor blades, Cutlery, Toy or replica guns (plastic or metal), Tools, Darts , Scissors of any size , Hypodermic syringes * , Knitting needles , Corkscrews , Catapults, Sporting bats, including rackets, cricket bats and golf clubs, Billiard, snooker and pool cues
* Passengers who require the use of hypodermic needles for medical reasons (e.g. diabetics and those with allergies) may be asked for proof of medical need.
Any such items indicated above must be packed in baggage that is to be loaded in the hold of the aircraft. Passengers travelling with hand baggage only will have any offending items confiscated by security personnel.

Recruitment for summer 2010 will start in October 2009. Each AWE Representative will start their recruitment during this month and will be able to provide you with the AWE 2009 Application Pack. You may register your interest with them now and ask to be placed on their mailing list.
Experience has shown that those who are able to make their application within the first recruitment session (October to December) have a greater opportunity of gaining a Placement that is best suited to their requirements.
It is expected that recruitment will end on May 31, 2010. There are always 'last minute' placements that are notified to us after this date, so contact your AWE Representative to check if applications are still being accepted.
